Su | Numbra takes its name from two sources:

Sumi-e, the Japanese discipline of ink painting, and Penumbra - the partial shadow, the region between light and dark.

The series lives in the in-between but the charged space where one becomes the other. Each piece is an abstract gesture committed in a single movement - bold diagonal strokes laid down with a loaded brush, dry-brush edges fraying where the ink runs thin. There is no revision and no retreat; the paper keeps exactly what the hand did.

What remains is pure contrast.
